The Australian Government has announced 4 new research grants under the Industrial Transformation Research Hubs scheme for 2019 with a total of $18.1 million awarded in this 2019 round.
ABRI is please to partner on one of these projects which aims to transform Australia’s waste and resource recovery industry by equipping it with scientifically developed advanced manufacturing capability, focusing on small-scale processing of materials produced from battery and consumer wastes which would otherwise mostly end up in landfill.

A program to find applications for a new type of battery material has received $3 million in funding from the federal government’s Cooperative Research Centre Projects (CRC-P) program.
The project aims to find and test a new type of material for high performance batteries. Currently, these types of batteries require costly and difficult to source materials to store significant amounts of energy.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has released version two of a Fire safety in waste facilities guideline, following consultation with the waste industry in early 2019.
The document provides guidance on fire safety in waste facilities that receive combustible waste material, including adequate provision for fire safety and facilitate safe fire brigade intervention to protect life, property and the environment.

The South Australian government is extending its partnership with Innovyz to deliver a second business incubator program, which will invest in technologies that improve waste management.

Lithium Australia NL (ASX: LIT) has teamed up with Envirostream Australia and ANSTO Minerals to develop a practical solution to a global problem. Right now, spent lithium-ion batteries are piling up around the globe, but to date the capacity to recycle the metals they contain (which are of considerable value) is limited. Almost without exception that recycling capacity recovers the base metals (nickel, copper, cobalt, etc.) only, not the lithium.
